Why we should go to Mars

Dr Robert Zubrin is an aerospace engineer and author, best known as the driving force behind Mars Direct – a proposal for human settlement of Mars intended to produce significant reductions in the cost and complexity of such a mission. Disappointed with the lack of interest from government in Mars exploration and following the success of his book, The Case for Mars, he established the Mars Society in 1998, an organisation devoted to the colonisation of Mars, by private funding if possible.
